Outgoing President's Remarks - Dean Lail
I feel like I have run out of time, only to realize that my year of
service is over. I would like to thank the Kiwanis Club for trusting
me with this responsibility.
I have tried to do my best, however, my record does not match that of
many distinguished presidents before me. I can only say I presided
over many successful efforts of fellow Kiwanians, including Scott
Redding's leadership of pancake day and the combined efforts of Ken
Gallimore and David Smith with baseball concessions. Frank Havens and
Dan Goble were also outstandingly successful in raising over $250,000
for Victory Junction among the Carolinas District, of which $25,000
was from our club over the two year period. Thanks to Jim Marlowe and
the scholarship committee for $4500 awarded each year to deserving
students. We are lucky to have Lynn Jones and Brett Thomas, who are
both accepting roles at the division level. I'm very proud of our
programs this year and chairman David Poe for an outstanding job
carrying out our themes each month. Thanks to these and everyone who
participated this year.
I think we all can say that we have enjoyed the work we've all
contributed this year as evidenced by the fact that many committee
chairpersons have accepted the same posts again this coming year. I
too would like to continue another year as president, but alas I
yield to my able successor and commit to help him achieve
distinguished status for the club. Yours truly.
Joke of the Day
"It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as
a warning to others."
Carl B. Hyatt Awards
It was quite a shock this year to lose Bob Fritz, a great Kiwanian
who deserved a Carl B. Hyatt as much as anyone.
The Carl B Hyatt Fellowship was created to honor the life and memory
of an outstanding Kiwanian. Mr. Hyatt's life demonstrated sharing,
respect, teamwork, patience, understanding, and love, and most of
all, example. The Fellowship is the highest level of honor and
recognition that is offered by the Carolinas District Kiwanis
Foundation and is accompanied by a donation from the club to the
foundation in the amount of $1000. We are awarding 5 Hyatts this year.
Heritage Society
Lynn Jones was recognized and honored this year with membership in
the Heritage Society for his generosity of including the Kiwanis
Foundation in his estate planning. You may want to do the same. See
Lynn or myself for details.
Food Distribution Thanks
Thanks to all those who helped with another successful food
distribution. Sam Bass and Dick Peterson did a great job filling in
