Victory Junction Report
Frank Havens reported that approximately $20,000 was reported pledged or raised at the District mid-year conference, bringing the total raised to date to nearly $170,000. The Capital City Kiwanis in Raleigh are expected to come through with an additional $50,000 toward the $250,000 donation goal.

Pancake Day Report
Scott Redding reported that all is on schedule but everyone needs to make plans to help out the full day as well as with setup at 9:30am Monday, March 15th. Committee assignments, tickets and signs were passed out. Committees are pretty much the same as last year.

Rusty really needs those spouses to sign up to help mix batter!

This past Wednesday morning, WKXR tied in a great plug for Kiwanis Pancake Day with a wire story about a leaking syrup tanker in Ohio. A mouth-watering 2 minute description of our pancake day was shared by Program Director Larry Reid.

Meeting 2/17/04 Marvin Caviness reported that Helen had been in the hospital with pneumonia. In announcements, president Dean noted that the Salvation Army needs cash donations due to fire at the Thrift Store. Dave Rowe introduced Denise Davis (Jack Mitchell's sister) with Safety Network as our business spotlight. Safety Network provides drug testing and training. Sheriff Litchard Hurley was the program speaker. The "country boy from Flint Hill" has served as Sheriff since 1989 and provided a run down on various divisions over last year. Plain clothes vice officers have closed 7 meth labs and confiscated about 4000 pounds of marijuana. Civil and Patrol divisions cases have doubled in 10 years. Detectives worked 3785 cases including 2 homicides (one deputy shot in the line of duty.) 5188 inmates were booked into the 196 bed jail over the course of a year. Other highly effective positive programs include DARE, CARE, JSA boot camp, and school resource officers. 43 Kiwanians and 4 guests attended. In a suspicious turn of events, President Dean again won the $8 jackpot. No arrests were made.

Meeting, 2/10/04 - Valentine's Night
Red was the color as Dean Lail opened our meeting with 64 people in attendance, 35 Kiwanis members and 29 guests. The crowd "looked" much better with our spouses in attendance. Thanks to all that came!
Dottie Lewis was great on the piano, as usual as she played for us. Tom Cunningham led us in a couple of songs, including "Le Me Call You Sweetheart." A meal was enjoyed by all. President Dean gave a report on an interclub attended by Earlie Hill, Darrell Lewis, Quinton Hussey and Dean Lail (String & Splinter.) Rusty Hammond passed out sign-up sheets for the ladies to help on "Pancake Day," Tuesday, March 16, 2004. It's that time! We were concerned that our program had to be cancelled but at the last moment Claudine showed up to save the day! Rene Henderson (As Claudene) kept the crowd laughing with her jokes and stories - embarrassing a number of people every chance she could (Wake-up Dean.) Rene ended here program with a beautiful version of "Amazing Grace." A good time was enjoyed by all. Reporter: Harvey Wood, Asheboro Printing, 152 S. Fayetteville St., 625-3132

Meeting 02/03/04 Dottie Lewis and Earlie Hill led us in music this evening. Jeff Miller lifted up our sick members for healing and asked for blessings upon our meal. Tonight we had 43 Kiwanians, 4 Keb Clubbers, and 7 other guests.Dave Rowe introduced Tim Garris, partner with Garris-Brantley

Design Construction, our spotlight business of the week. Tim started this business in 1990 with his partner, Pat Brantley. They are involved with home design and construction, design drafting services, interior design, property management, and real estate sales. Their attention to detail, craftmanship, and hard work over the years has led to their success in our community. Our program was introduced by Dick Peterson. Peggy Allen spoke on behalf of the Red Cross concerning heart health, what everybody should know. She showed us a video on heart attack warning signs and then had a question and answer session. February is heart month which made tonight's program a timely subject. President Dean Lail won the jackpot! In closing, remember that Tuesday the 10th is Ladies Night; don't forget to bring your sweetheart.
