Meeting Summaries
Jan 9th - We had as our guests for the eveing three members of the AHS key Club and one from Randleman. Carlton Cheek introduced Foster Hughes with Asheboro Parks and Recreation. Foster presented the concept plan for the proposed Zoo City Park. A playground in this park may be a project our club will want to tackle.

Jan 16th - Tim Edwards presented a program on his family's trip over thte Christmas holidays to China to visit his daughter, Dee. Dee is serving as a missionary and teaching English at acollege in Nanning. Joining us for the evening were Sara Cox and Kathy Jones with their husbands. Three members of the RHS Key Club and one from AHS were in attendance.

Jan 23rd - Both Key Clubs were well repsented with three from Asheboro and four from Randleman. Taylor Morton joined mother, Dawn. The program was presented by Jonathon Sermon with Asheboros Parks and Recreation. Jonathon shared information about the Senior Games. He tried to recruit some of our "senior" members to participate.

Jan 30th - Our own Dr. Daryl Hill presented a program on the "Give Kids a Smile" program he has participated in for the past few years. Daryl has a passion for serving the underserved, especially children with dental problems. Twelve Key Clubbers were in attendance. RHS - 9 AHS - 9.

New Member Spolight
Billie Dunning is a real estate broker with RE/Max Central Realty. Rusty Hammond invited here to visit our Dec 5th meeting. Since joining on Jan 2nd, she has not missed a meeting. We need more enthusiastic members like Billie.

Pancake Day is Mar 20th
Chariman Dave Rowe is putting the finishing touches on committee assignments. We all need to make our best effort to make this event successful. Each member will soon be given 30 tickets to ensure the success of this project. Bringin in a few new members before then would also help.

Called Business Meeting
At our meeting on Jan 23rd, the 50 members present voted unanimously to give $25,000 to Randolph Hospital toward construction of a new Cancer Center and Outpatient building to be given over a five year period. This contribution will give us a naming opportunity for some part of this new facility.

Meeting Summaries
February 6th - 52 Kiwanians and 2 members of the AHS Key Club were present for tonight's meeting. Our own Jim Sink gave a program on Ayurveda, a system of health discovered 5,000 years ago that identifies three different body types. By matching your diet with your body type and following certain routines, Jim promises no more health problems. It has worked for many.

February 13th - We celebrated Valentine's Day a day early with many of our spouses as guests. Red and white carnations were provided courtesy of Eddie Pugh and Asheboro Florist. Eddie Burks had Joe and Yvonne Deaton as his guests. Also attending were 4 RHS and I AHS Key Clubbers. Eddie, along with the assistance of Dawn Morton, hosted the Newlywed Game. Contestants were Mike and Cindy Hams, Mike and April Stack, Bill and Ginger Craig, and Lynn and Kathy Jones. The winners of a gift certificate to Timothy's were the most newly wedded Craigs. Bill was the only husband who knew his mother-in-law's birthday.

Crutchfield, 4 members of the RHS Key Club, and Austin Crumpler from the AHS Key Club. Steve Bulla introduced Joyce Wolford with the RCC Foundation. Also speaking was RCC Student Ambassador Stephanie Quigley.
February 27th Pete Abbott introduced Dare Spicer with the RCC Adult Basic Education department. Dare explained how adults of all ages can benefit from the programs offered at RCC. Pete also introduced Dare's husband, Rodney, as a prospective member. Other guests were two members of the Randleman High School Key Club and Catherine Lail with the AHS Key Club.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Dean Lail, who serves on the Salvation Army board of directors, presented the club with the award for raising the most money last Christmas. He gave special recognition to Rusty Hammond and Marion Griffin for going above and beyond ringing duties. He also gave credit to the Key Clubs for their help. Since Dean has chaired this project for the past few years, we need to give him accolades for our success.
MAKE PLANS to give March 20th to the club. We need everybody to participate. If you can't, recruit someone who can.

Meeting Summaries
March 6th -We had a full house with 57 members and 10 guests. Jim Gibson had his father with him, Rev. Barney Gibson. Eddie Pugh had his wife, Katherine, and Ron Deranek as his guests. Two members of the RHS Key Club and one from Asheboro were present. Lynn Smith inducted Jeanette Rojeski, accompanied by her husband, Peter, and Jennifer Mclnnis with her husband, Dan. 52 Kiwanians and 2 members of the AHS Key Club were present for tonight's meeting. Rusty Hammond inducted Billie Dunning. Eddie introduced Lou Kiessler who presented a program on a recent trip to Africa which she and Eddie made. Lou had her father, David Gay, with her.

March 13th -We had a huge crowd consisting of 55 Kiwanians and 4 guests, including 2 AHS Key Clubbers and Bill Clingenpeel, district treasurer and division secretary. Bill presented Frank Havens with a certificate from the Carolinas District to recognize his contributions toward the success of the Victory Junction Gang Camp cabin project. He also presented Past President Jimmy Hill with the distinguished president award. Our speaker was Melissa Kraskouskas with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. She shared how volunteers make a difference in the lives of children.
March 20th - We had another successful Pancake Day. Dave Rowe did a great job chairing this year. Although the total profit will not be determined for several weeks, we do know we served well over

March 27 - There were 45 members and six guests present for tonight's meeting. The AHS Key Club had five representatives including Elspeth Crawford and Desiree Avanto who shared their experiences and awards received at the Carolinas District Key Club Convention in Durham. They presented Lynn Jones with a certificate from Carolinas Key Club recognizing him as the Outstanding Kiwanis Advisor. Eddie Burks, president of Crime Stoppers of Randolph County, introduced Cpl. Scott Harris with the Randolph County Sheriffs Department who spoke about this organization. He shared how tips from citizens help solve many crimes that would go unsolved otherwise.
NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Although they have been coming for several months, we were finally able to induct Jeanette Rojeski and Jennifer Mclnnis as new members. Both are teachers and faculty advisors for the Key Club at Randleman High School.

PANCAKE DAY FOLLOW-UP
Everyone needs to turn their ticket money or unsold tickets over to Brett Thomas as soon as possible so we can put closure to this project. We need to account for all Pancake tickets issued to members.

Annual Scholarship Night. Don Andrews, superintendent of Randolph County Schools challenged the seniors to continue to excel in their endeavors, while having fun. Recipients of $1000 scholarships were Desiree Avato and Eispeth Crawford from AHS, Cody Hamlet and Bradley McPherson from ERHS, Victor Oxendine from RHS, and Ashely Short from THS.

May 22 nd Nine of our members were at the Legion game, so attendance was down. Guests included Victor Oxendine and his family. Victor was a scholarship winner, but unable to attend the banquet. He is a iiiember of the RHS Key Club and a member of the Post 45 team. He left the meeting and went straight to McCrary Park for the game. Tina Crutchfield introduced Jared Reeder with Hospice of Randolph County. Jared corrected some of the well known myths about Hospice.


May 29th Eddie Burks arranged to have Bill Johnson from Ramseur who wrote Moon Over Purgatory, a novel set in NC during the Civil War. However, he did not talk much about his book. He shared some life lessons with us. Allie Hill came with her father.

meeting included Wayne Tolar with Bill Craig and five members of the RHS Key Club. Ricky Cox introduced Sam Whitley, AHS athletic director and football coach. Sam talked about this year's football team and all of the fall sports teams at AHS.
September 1 8th We welcomed back Pressley Barnette after his recent illness. Thirty eight members and eight guests were present. Six of the guests were from the RHS Key Club. Joe Fowler came with Dawn Morton and Jerry Simpson with Howie Snotherly. Lynn Jones introduced Nan Griswold, executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank out of Winston Salem. She shared how her organization supplies food to 375 agencies in 18 counties, including Randolph.
September 25th We were eighty strong for our Annual Installation Banquet. Non-spousal guests included Ola Smith, Frances Hill, Phyllis Rainey, and prospective member, Jerry Simpson.

Also present were four members from the AHS Key Club and three from RHS. Sec. Lynn recognized the following members for perfect attendance: 1 year - Don Blanton, Jack Mitchell, Dave Rowe; 2-Mike Hams; 4-Eddie Burks; 16-Pete Abbott; 21-Earlie Hill, Charles Lee; 22- Lynn Jones; 26-Marion Griffin; 44- Marvin Caviness; 46-Qu inton Hussey; and 58-Jeff Miller. Legion of Honor awards were presented to Earlie Hill, Gary Parks, and David Smith for 25 years of Kiwanis service; Don Blanton for 30; Jim Myrick for 35; Marvin Caviness for 50; and Russell Walker for 65 years. Lt. Coy. Mary McElvogue installed the following officers: Dave Rowe, president; Eddie Burks, vice- president; Lynn Jones, sec/treas.; and Mike Hams, immediate past president. The following members were installed to the board of directors: Don Blanton, Carlton Cheek, O.C. Burrow, Mike Hunter, Jim Marlowe, Dawn Morton, and Jim Sink.

New Member Spotlight
Steve Grove recently moved here from West Virginia with wife, Liz. They live at 1937 Horse Carriage Lane and have grown children who live in Charlotte and Durham. Steve is retired from BB&T and loves tennis and fishing. He was sponsored by Ricky Cox.

President's Comments
It has been my pleasure for the last year to have served as your President. The Asheboro Kiwanis is a great organization and I am proud to be part of it. As we start a new year with new leadership we will have the opportunity to serve the children of Asheboro, Randolph County.
